Understanding Vet Pricing in Dubai: What You Should Expect to Pay
Vet costs in Dubai vary enormously. This guide breaks down typical pricing so you know what is reasonable and what is not.

Veterinary pricing in Dubai is not regulated. Clinics set their own fees. This means the same procedure can cost AED 200 at one clinic and AED 800 at another. The variation is not always correlated with quality, but it is not random either. Understanding what drives pricing helps you make informed decisions.
A standard consultation in Dubai typically ranges from AED 100 to AED 300. This should include a physical examination, weight check, and time for you to discuss concerns with the vet. Specialist consultations (dermatology, cardiology, orthopaedics) range from AED 300 to AED 600. If a consultation feels rushed or the vet does not examine your pet thoroughly, the fee is not justified regardless of the price.
Vaccinations in the UAE typically cost AED 100 to AED 250 per vaccine, depending on the type and the clinic. A puppy or kitten completing their full initial series can expect total vaccination costs of AED 500 to AED 1,200. Annual boosters are usually AED 200 to AED 400. Rabies vaccination, which is legally required, typically costs AED 100 to AED 200.
Blood work ranges from AED 200 for a basic panel to AED 800 or more for comprehensive screening. In-house blood analysis is more expensive but provides results within minutes. External lab work is cheaper but takes hours or days. For routine wellness screening, external labs are fine. For sick animals, in-house speed justifies the premium.
Dental cleaning under anaesthesia typically costs AED 800 to AED 2,000, depending on the degree of dental disease and whether extractions are needed. This includes pre-anaesthetic blood work, anaesthesia, scaling, polishing, and post-operative monitoring. Dental work is one area where cutting costs can be dangerous. Anaesthesia-free dental cleaning is not a substitute. It is cosmetic only and does not address disease below the gum line.
Spaying and neutering costs vary significantly. For cats, expect AED 500 to AED 1,200. For dogs, AED 800 to AED 2,500 depending on size and sex (spaying is more complex than neutering). These fees should include pre-surgical blood work, anaesthesia, the surgery itself, pain medication, and a follow-up visit.
Diagnostic imaging ranges from AED 300 to AED 600 for X-rays and AED 400 to AED 800 for ultrasound. Advanced imaging (CT scan, MRI) is available at specialist centres and costs AED 3,000 to AED 8,000. These are typically used for complex cases where standard imaging is insufficient.
Emergency and out-of-hours care carries a premium, typically 50 to 100 percent above standard fees. This reflects the cost of maintaining 24-hour staffing, equipment, and facilities. An emergency consultation can range from AED 300 to AED 600 before any treatment begins. Emergency surgery costs vary enormously depending on the procedure.
The cheapest option is rarely the best option, but the most expensive option is not automatically the best either. What you are paying for is the vet's expertise, the quality of the equipment, the standard of care, and the time they spend with your animal. A vet who charges AED 200 for a consultation and spends 20 minutes with your pet is better value than one who charges AED 150 and rushes through in 5 minutes.
A subscription model, like what Paws and Co offers, provides predictable costs and removes the anxiety of unexpected vet bills. You pay a monthly amount. Your pet gets the care they need. No surprises, no guilt, no delay in seeking treatment because you are worried about the cost. That is the model we believe in.
This article is general guidance for pet parents in the UAE, not veterinary advice for your individual animal. Every pet is different. For a diagnosis, treatment, or any concern about your pet's health, speak to a qualified vet. If you think your pet needs urgent care, contact a vet straight away.
