Dubai has a lot of veterinary clinics, and they are not all the same. This guide helps you tell the difference.
Start with trust, not distance
The first question is not "which vet is closest?" It is "which vet do I trust with my animal's life?" Convenience matters, but it should not be the deciding factor. A 20-minute drive to a vet you trust is better than a five-minute walk to one you do not.
Check their credentials
Every practising vet in Dubai must be licensed by Dubai Municipality. Ask about qualifications, years of experience and areas of special interest. Vets who keep up their training and hold international qualifications (such as MRCVS, or board certification) are keeping their knowledge up to date.
What a good vet clinic looks like
The clinic itself tells you a lot. Is it clean? Is the equipment modern? Can they run blood tests, X-rays and ultrasound on site, or do they send everything out? Diagnostics in the clinic mean faster answers, which matters most when something is urgent.
Clear prices, before anything is done
You should know the price before anything is done. A good clinic tells you what a procedure costs before it happens, explains what is included, and does not upsell treatment your pet does not need. If a clinic cannot tell you what something costs before they do it, that is a red flag. Our guide to red flags at a vet clinic covers the other warning signs.
How they talk to you
Do they follow up after visits? Can you reach them easily with questions? Do they explain things in plain language, or hide behind jargon? Your vet should be someone you feel comfortable asking anything, even the questions you think sound silly.
How they handle your animal
This is the most important sign of all. Watch how the nurses and vets treat pets in the waiting area. Are they gentle and patient? Do they get down to the animal's level? A clinic that rushes animals through is built for volume, not care.
Ask about emergencies
What happens if your pet needs care outside clinic hours? Do they have an emergency line, or do they refer you to a 24-hour hospital? Knowing this before an emergency happens matters. Our emergency page shows what to do if it cannot wait.
How Paws & Co will work
When our clinics open in Motor City and Al Barsha South, on Hessa Street, you will see the care plan and what it costs before you decide anything. Every vet will have clinical autonomy, so their decisions will be based on what is best for your animal, not on revenue targets. We say what we mean and charge what we say.
