The decisions made in a consultation room affect your animal's health and life, so it is worth being choosy about the clinic. This is the checklist: what a good clinic in Dubai looks like when you walk in. For the bigger picture, start with our guide on how to choose a vet in Dubai.

Start with the licence

Dubai Municipality licenses and regulates the veterinary clinics in Dubai, and sets the standards they have to meet. A good clinic will be happy to show you its licence. If you cannot see it, ask.

Tests in the building

In-house diagnostics can save you a long wait. With digital X-ray, ultrasound and an in-house laboratory, a clinic can often find out what is wrong and start treatment in the same visit. When samples go to an outside lab, you can wait hours or days for results, and when something is urgent, that wait matters. Our diagnostics page explains what each test shows.

Look around the consultation room

Is it clean? Is the table wiped down between patients? Is there a scale? Does the vet wash their hands before handling your pet? These are basics, and a good clinic gets them right every time, from a routine health check to a sick visit.

Watch how they handle animals

Do the staff greet your pet warmly? Do they get down to the animal's level? Is the handling gentle and patient? Good clinics take their time, so your animal never feels rushed.

Ask about the vets

Veterinary medicine moves quickly, so ask about the vets' qualifications and how they keep their training up to date. Look for vets who go to conferences, hold further certifications or have an area of special interest. A good vet is glad to tell you.

A clear quote, before anything is done

A good clinic gives you a clear quote before a procedure, whether that is a blood test or surgery. It explains what is included and what might cost extra, and it does not push services your pet does not need. Our guide to red flags at a vet clinic covers what to do when that does not happen.

Know the plan for out of hours

You hope never to need it, but ask anyway. What happens outside clinic hours? Is there an emergency line? Does the clinic care for pets through the night, or refer you to an emergency hospital? Know the answer before you need it. If it cannot wait, our emergency page shows what to do right now.

Records, reminders and follow-ups

Good care carries on between visits. Look for digital health records, appointment and vaccination reminders, a follow-up call or message after a procedure, and a team you can reach with a question. If you feel like a number, keep looking.

Trust what you notice

If something feels off, if the clinic feels rushed or the staff seem stressed or indifferent, listen to that feeling. Your pet cannot choose their vet. They are relying on you to choose well. strong>They would do the research themselves, but they cannot read./strong>
